Woman Arrested Over Alleged Attempt To Smuggle Drugs Into Abeokuta Correctional Centre
A woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle substances suspected to be a psychoactive drug into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The woman was reportedly arrested at about 1:33 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, during routine screening at the entrance of the facility. According to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, she had visited an inmate on death row when officers allegedly discovered a sachet of Milo beverage containing substances suspected to be “Colos.”
The suspected contraband was detected during the standard screening process at the facility’s main gate. The Command said the incident demonstrated the vigilance of its personnel and its commitment to preventing prohibited items from entering custodial centres.
Following her arrest, the suspect was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Controller of Corrections, Ogun State Command, Kamoru Adesina, commended the officers for their alertness and professionalism, while reiterating the Service’s zero tolerance for drug trafficking and other criminal activities within custodial facilities. He warned members of the public against attempting to compromise the security of correctional centres, stressing that offenders would face the law.
