Popular Awka MC, Aiza Nwosu, Two Others Reportedly Killed In Gunmen Attack
Awka, Anambra: Reports of a shooting incident in the Amaenyi area of Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday have left several people injured, with at least three deaths reported.
The incident, according to multiple sources, occurred when suspected cultists allegedly arrived in an ash coloured Toyota Corolla and opened fire in parts of Amaenyi and the Capital City area of Awka.
Several residents were reportedly caught in the ensuing violence, while others fled the affected areas for safety.
One of those reportedly killed was identified as Aiza Nwosu, an elderly resident of the area who was allegedly shot around SM Okeke Street.
Nwosu was a popular community figure and local town crier who was known for speaking out on issues affecting the community. Claims that he was specifically targeted remain unverified.
Sources also alleged that the attack may have been connected to a dispute involving cult groups operating in the area. However, the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the identity and motive of the attackers, have not been officially established. There are also conflicting accounts regarding whether the incident was connected to Nwosu’s family or his activities in the community.
A separate shooting was reportedly recorded in the Capital City area, where several people were said to have sustained gunshot injuries. Reports of additional fatalities have emerged, but the exact number of casualties could not be independently confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has renewed concerns about cult related violence in Awka and the need for security agencies to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. Residents have also called for increased security presence in affected communities to prevent further attacks and protect innocent residents.
