Anambra Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer, Recover ₦5.8M Worth Of Illicit Drugs

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 28 year old suspected drug dealer, Chinedu Nwankwo, and recovered suspected illicit drugs valued at about ₦5.8 million during an intelligence driven operation along the Nteje Otuocha Road.

The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, August 29, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Team, who recovered suspected Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine and Colorado, popularly known as Colos, from him.

Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect was allegedly transporting the substances to Otuocha, Anyamelium, Nzam, Umuleri and Aguleri for delivery to suspected criminal elements. Investigators are also examining whether the consignments were connected to activities capable of disrupting the ongoing Local Government Council elections in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for their vigilance, particularly during the election period, noting that illicit drugs can fuel criminality by providing resources and emboldening individuals involved in violent and other criminal activities.

CP Nnanna assured residents that the Command would sustain intelligence led operations, targeted raids and collaboration with sister security agencies to identify and dismantle criminal networks across the state. He added that the suspect and recovered exhibits remain in custody as investigation continues to establish the full extent of the alleged network.
