Operation Hadin Kai Foils Terrorist Attack On Kukawa, Neutralises 26
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a terrorist attack on Kukawa town in Borno State, killing several terrorists and disrupting their attempt to regroup after fleeing the battlefield.
The attack occurred at about 10:50pm on Friday, August 28, when terrorists attacked troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion deployed in Kukawa. The soldiers responded with direct and indirect fire, forcing the attackers to retreat towards the Cross Kauwa axis, with several terrorists reportedly killed or wounded.
As the terrorists fled on motorcycles, the military coordinated ground and air operations to track their movement. Air strikes subsequently targeted terrorists hiding under trees, reportedly neutralising about 10, while intelligence surveillance tracked another group of about 20 motorcycles moving towards the Tunbuns and Kangarwa axis.
A follow up precision air strike on the fleeing terrorists reportedly killed another 15 and destroyed 10 motorcycles. Ground troops later recovered additional motorcycles, ammunition and other items, while one more terrorist was neutralised during subsequent exploitation of the area.
The military said four personnel sustained injuries that were not life threatening and were evacuated for medical attention in stable condition. Troops have since commenced further operations in the area, while the Joint Task Force says it remains committed to sustained intelligence led ground and air operations to degrade terrorist capabilities and protect communities across the North East.
