“My Wife Beats Me During Disagreements” – Man Seeks Divorce in Kaduna
A 47-year old man, Johnson Gabriel, has asked a Kaduna Customary Court to dissolve his 20 year marriage, alleging that his wife, Janet, repeatedly beats him whenever they have disagreements.
Gabriel, who lives in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, told the court that his wife had become disrespectful and difficult to live with, despite several attempts by him, family members and their children to resolve their differences.
“I am tired of the constant abuse and threat to life. I want a divorce,” he told the court.
However, Janet denied the allegations, accusing her husband of seeking a divorce because he wants to marry another woman. She also alleged that his attitude towards her changes whenever he has money.
The court presided over by Judge Dauda Bala advised the couple to consider reconciliation, particularly for the sake of their children.
The case was adjourned until September 20 for a report of settlement or hearing.
