Troops Arrest Two Suspected Terrorists, Recover AK 47, Ammunition in Zamfara

Troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered an AK 47 rifle, ammunition and communication equipment during a night patrol in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation was conducted in the early hours of August 25, 2026, by troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 operating from the Forward Operating Base, Kaura Namoda.

The suspects, identified as Jabiru Hassan, 25, and Umaru Bello, 23, were reportedly intercepted during the patrol. Both men are said to be from Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area.

The troops recovered an AK 47 rifle, a locally fabricated Dane gun, two rifle magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 18 Dane gun cartridges.

Also recovered were a motorcycle, two Baofeng radio sets, a mobile phone, two MP3 players, a camouflage vest, two jungle hats, a handbag and ₦44,500 cash.

According to the Army, preliminary examination of the suspects’ mobile phone revealed photographs and videos considered potentially significant to ongoing intelligence efforts. The materials are being subjected to further verification to establish their relevance and possible links to terrorist activities.

The operation, according to the Brigade, demonstrates the impact of sustained fighting patrols and intelligence led operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement across the area.

The Acting Commander, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Col. J. Umaru, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, urging them to sustain the operational tempo against terrorists and other criminal elements.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and supporting efforts to restore lasting peace and security across Zamfara State.
