COOU, FRSC Partner To Strengthen Road Safety, Emergency Response

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to establish a Road Safety Special Marshals Unit within the university and its environs.

The initiative, announced by the university’s Students Accident, Emergency and Safety Unit, is aimed at strengthening road safety awareness, responsible road use and emergency response among members of the university community and surrounding areas.

Under the partnership, the FRSC has approved a 75 per cent discount on registration fees for 25 qualified COOU staff members interested in joining the Special Marshals. Successful participants will receive training in traffic management, accident response and road safety advocacy.

The Head of the Unit, Dr. Afamnede Godfrey Oguechuo, urged young and service oriented staff to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that the programme would provide avenues for community service, professional development and participation in road safety campaigns, workshops and seminars.

The university said the partnership would further strengthen its capacity to respond to road emergencies and promote safer road use within the institution and neighbouring communities. Interested staff have been advised to contact 0811 044 8741 for registration and further information.
