Anambra Police Reject ₦200,000 Bribe, Warn Motorists Over Tinted Glass Permit
The Anambra State Police Command has warned motorists using tinted-glass vehicles to obtain the appropriate permit or remove unauthorised tint, saying the requirement is aimed at enhancing public safety and effective policing.
The Command issued the warning following an incident in which police officers reportedly rejected a ₦200,000 bribe offered by a motorist who was stopped for using tinted glass without the required permit.
Rather than accept the money, the officers directed the motorist to either remove the unauthorised tint or obtain the appropriate permit where applicable.
The Command commended the officers for demonstrating professionalism and integrity, describing the rejection of the bribe as evidence of its determination to enforce the law without compromise under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama.
It explained that the tinted glass permit requirement is intended to regulate vehicles with tinted windows for security purposes, particularly where limited visibility of occupants could pose challenges to law enforcement.
The Command advised motorists who do not wish to obtain a permit to remove the tint from their vehicles and urged vehicle owners to comply with applicable regulations.
It also warned motorists against offering money or other inducements to police officers to evade lawful enforcement.
The Police further urged members of the public to report any officer who demands money in connection with tinted glass enforcement or other police duties, assuring that disciplinary action would be taken against personnel found culpable.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professional and accountable policing and called for the cooperation of residents in maintaining security across Anambra State.
