COOUTH Showcases Trauma Centre Equipment Following Claims on Hospital Facilities

The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) has showcased medical equipment at its Trauma Centre and Emergency Ward following claims by a Canada based medical doctor that the hospital lacked adequate facilities and operated under poor conditions.
The inspection followed comments made by Dr. Okunenyeife CKO during an interview on the Gbam Interview programme, where he alleged that some hospital wards were dirty, the newly constructed Trauma Centre lacked essential medical equipment, electricity supply was inconsistent, and doctors and consultants earned less than ₦1 million monthly. The interview attracted widespread attention on social media.
In response, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, alongside the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, invited the host of Gbam Interview, Chijioke Igwendu, and his crew to inspect the hospital’s facilities.
During the tour, the management displayed medical equipment installed at the Trauma Centre, visited the Emergency Ward, which is currently undergoing renovation, and inspected the hospital’s theatre. The officials maintained that the hospital is equipped to provide quality healthcare services.
The Chief Medical Director also disclosed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has approved ₦500 million for the procurement of additional state of the art medical equipment, which is expected to arrive at the hospital this week.
The visit was aimed at providing the public with firsthand information on the current state of facilities at the teaching hospital amid the ongoing public debate.
