FRSC Recovers Suspected Stolen Vehicle Missing Since 2023 In Anambra
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has recovered a suspected stolen Toyota Camry through its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) in Nnewi.
The breakthrough came during a routine verification of vehicle registration documents at the Driver’s Licence Centre, where officials discovered the vehicle had already been registered to another owner in the FRSC database.
The registered owner, a police officer, confirmed the vehicle was stolen from his residence in Umuahia, Abia State, in June 2023 and had remained missing despite earlier police reports.
Following the discovery, the Nigeria Police Area Command in Nnewi launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of the vehicle from his residence.
Investigators also found the car was bearing a registration number not recognised in the FRSC database, raising suspicion of identity cloning.
FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, commended the vigilance of the NVIS team and urged vehicle owners to verify their registration records through the FRSC platform to help combat vehicle theft and related crimes.
