Stakeholders Divided Over Holiday Lessons For Students

Education stakeholders have expressed differing views on the relevance of holiday lessons, with some describing them as essential for academic improvement, while others believe school breaks should be reserved for rest and skills acquisition.

A teacher at Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, Mrs. Chinwe Akpulue, said holiday lessons help students remain academically engaged, catch up on their studies and maintain learning continuity. She, however, noted that the classes can deny students adequate rest, increase the risk of burnout and place additional financial pressure on parents.

On the other hand, a student of Ezeike High School, Nibo, Miss Treasure Umeadi, argued that holidays should provide students with an opportunity to relax after a demanding school term and develop practical skills outside the classroom.

The differing opinions highlight the ongoing debate over balancing academic excellence with the physical, mental and personal development of students during school holidays.
