The Anambra State Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has commenced a three day screening exercise for male and female football players as part of efforts to build formidable state teams for upcoming national competitions.

Declaring the exercise open, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, disclosed that about 350 young footballers between the ages of 16 and 19 years are participating in the screening.

He explained that outstanding players selected from the exercise will proceed to a closed camping programme where they will undergo further assessment before the final teams are constituted.

Mr. Agha Mba said the objective is to assemble highly competitive male and female teams capable of outperforming other states and earning the right to represent the South East at the national team events in Lagos.

The commissioner charged the coaches and technical officials to conduct the screening with fairness and professionalism, urging them to select only the most talented and disciplined players.

He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, noting that the administration’s investment is creating opportunities for young people to develop their talents and compete at the highest level.

The event also featured a birthday celebration in honour of the Wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative. Mr. Agha Mba led players, coaches and officials of the ministry in celebrating her, describing her as a strong advocate for healthy living and youth development in Anambra State.
