Police to Arraign 13 Suspects for Stealing Building Materials at Lagos Airport

The Airport Police Command in Lagos says it will arraign 13 suspects arrested for allegedly stealing building materials from construction sites at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

According to the command, the suspects were apprehended on July 30 by the Joint Monitoring Task Force during a coordinated patrol around the airport’s construction zone.

Police said the operation followed credible intelligence and was part of ongoing efforts to protect critical national infrastructure and safeguard the rehabilitation of the airport.

Items recovered from the suspects include high value copper cables, iron components and other construction materials allegedly stolen from the project site.

The suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Hassan, Haruna Yaya, Ali Muhammed, Walid Shaibu, Idris Musa, Aliu Musa, Mustapha Umaru, Timothy Joseph, Isa Adamu, Musa Abdullahi Hassan, Mamuda Ibrahim, Mukhtar Aliyu and Ibrahim Jidda.

The Airport Police Command noted that despite the successful prosecution of suspects arrested for similar offences in April 2026, some criminal elements have continued to target construction sites at the airport.

The Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, commended the Joint Monitoring Task Force for its vigilance and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting critical airport infrastructure.

She also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
