Amupitan Commissions INEC Decides Studio, Charges Officials on Credible Osun Governorship Poll

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has commissioned an INEC Decides Studio and a BVAS Storage Facility at the Osun State INEC headquarters as part of preparations for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The facilities, initiated by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, are designed to strengthen election communication through a dedicated media centre and ensure the safe storage of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices.

After the commissioning, Prof. Amupitan held a strategic meeting with Electoral Officers from the state’s 30 local government areas. The REC, alongside the Supervising National Commissioner for Osun State, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, assured the INEC Chairman that the Commission was fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, credible and conclusive governorship election.

Addressing the Electoral Officers, Prof. Amupitan described them as the Commission’s frontline representatives and urged them to uphold professionalism throughout the electoral process. He stressed the need for the timely opening of polling units, warning that negligence would attract sanctions, while outstanding performance would be recognised and rewarded.

The INEC Chairman also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to staff welfare and continuous improvement of electoral infrastructure nationwide. He disclosed that INEC would sustain collaboration with the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and other stakeholders to guarantee the safety of election personnel and materials.

He further cautioned officials against misinformation and disinformation, urging them to remain focused and ensure that the Osun governorship election becomes a benchmark for future off cycle polls in Nigeria.
