Police Arrest Two, Recover 55 AK 47 Ammunition Rounds in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered 55 rounds of live AK 47 ammunition during a joint security operation in Anka Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested on Monday, July 27, during a stop and search operation conducted by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Community Protection Guard.
The security team reportedly intercepted a Volkswagen Golf III along the Anka Bagega Road, where officers searched the vehicle and discovered 55 rounds of live AK 47 ammunition concealed inside a polythene bag.
Police identified the driver as Abubakar Rilwanu, a resident of Bagega, while preliminary investigations linked the ammunition to a passenger identified as Rabiu Mohammed, from Jambako in Maradun Local Government Area.
According to the police, Mohammed allegedly told investigators that he collected the ammunition from Dodori Village in Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and was transporting it to a person identified as Oliya, who is currently at large.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, while security operatives are making efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover the wider network allegedly connected to the movement of the ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, CP A. M. Bello, reaffirmed the command’s determination to tackle the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to help prevent criminal activities and protect lives and property.
