NMDPRA Begins 2026 Gas Reconciliation, Moves to Strengthen Transparency

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, has commenced the first half of 2026 Nigerian Gas Network Reconciliation Workshop as part of efforts to improve transparency, accountability and efficiency in Nigeria’s domestic gas market.
The January to June reconciliation exercise is focused on ensuring accurate accounting of gas volumes transported through the country’s national gas network.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop on behalf of the Authority’s Chief Executive, Mallam Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, the Director of Transportation Infrastructure, Supply and Network Operations, Engr. Joseph G. Musa, described the exercise as critical to strengthening accountability across the gas transportation system.
Musa said the biannual reconciliation process, introduced in 2023, has improved measurement reliability, strengthened operational discipline and created new opportunities across the gas value chain.
He added that the initiative has contributed to a more reliable domestic gas supply through improved pressure management and greater accountability among stakeholders.
The NMDPRA director also disclosed that the peer review and internal processes for Revision 2 of the Nigerian Gas Transportation Network Code have been completed, with the revised Code expected to be released soon.
He called on stakeholders across the gas sector to actively participate in the reconciliation process, stressing that accurate data and accountability remain essential to developing a sustainable and efficient gas transportation network.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to building a transparent, reliable and efficient domestic gas market capable of supporting investment, industrial growth and Nigeria’s broader energy security.
