Hostel Collapse: No Federal Polytechnic Oko Student Confirmed Dead, Management Says
The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has clarified that no student of the institution has been confirmed dead following the collapse of the Elite Five Star Hostel in Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area.
The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Oguegbu Udoka, said the collapsed building was a privately owned lodge outside the polytechnic and was occupied by both students and non students.
He added that the two persons initially believed to be trapped in the rubble were reportedly not students of the institution, noting that most students had already left after completing their second semester examinations.
However, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Ndidi Omega, confirmed that the body of a female victim had been recovered, while a young man remained trapped under the rubble.
Three other injured persons rescued from the scene are receiving medical attention in a nearby hospital, as emergency workers continue rescue operations.
