FAAN Launches Recycling Programme at Lagos International Airport
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has launched the first phase of its Sustainable Waste Management Programme at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The initiative introduces colour coded recycling bins to encourage proper waste separation and promote environmental sustainability within the airport environment.
The programme was launched on Wednesday, July 22, by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, alongside the Chairman of the FAAN Board, Alhaji Umar Ganduje, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku.
According to FAAN, the colour coded bins are designed to make waste disposal and separation easier for passengers, airport users and other stakeholders.
The agency described the initiative as a major step towards building cleaner, greener and more sustainable airports across Nigeria.
FAAN also urged travellers and airport users to play their part by disposing of waste responsibly, supporting recycling and using the appropriate bins.
The authority said the success of the programme would depend on the collective responsibility of airport users and stakeholders in maintaining cleaner and more environmentally friendly airport facilities.
