Ojukwu Appeals for Support as Anambra Begins Right of Way Clearance in Nnewichi
The Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, has called on residents of Nnewichi in Nnewi North Local Government Area to cooperate with the state government in the ongoing right of way clearance for the construction of critical power infrastructure.
Speaking with journalists in Awka, Barrister Ojukwu explained that the exercise is aimed at creating the required corridor for the construction of a 132 KVA electricity transmission power line at Umuogbo Obiofia, Nnewichi. He noted that while public infrastructure projects may cause temporary inconvenience, they remain essential for sustainable development and improved service delivery.
The Commissioner stressed that projects such as roads, schools, markets, courts and electricity facilities often require land acquisition in the overriding public interest, adding that such investments are necessary to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of the people.
He assured affected residents that the Soludo administration would uphold fairness and due process throughout the exercise. Ojukwu recalled that property owners affected by the Anambra Beltway road expansion were duly compensated and expressed confidence that the same approach would be adopted where necessary for the current project.
Barrister Ojukwu further disclosed that the Ministry of Lands would begin documentation of affected properties within the next two weeks as part of the process for possible compensation before full implementation of the project.
He urged residents to support the initiative, expressing optimism that the electricity transmission project would significantly improve power supply and accelerate socio economic development in Nnewichi and neighbouring communities.
