Nigerian Navy Arrests Suspect, Hands Him Over to NDLEA Over Alleged Illicit Drug Trafficking in Anambra
A 44 year old man, Mr. Chukwu Ebuka Obas, has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, by the Nigerian Navy over alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking in Anambra State.
The suspect, who is from Orsumoghu Community in Ihiala Local Government Area, was arrested by personnel of the Naval Outpost, Onitsha, during a stop and search operation at Uga Junction in Ogbaru Local Government Area on July 15, 2026.
Commanding Officer of Naval Outpost Onitsha, Commander Kabir Yusuf, formally handed the suspect over to the NDLEA Onitsha Area Command. According to the Navy, the suspect was found with a sack containing thirty packs of expired Mamagra Viagra, one hundred packs of FIKA Viagra, herbal roots and a one litre plastic bottle containing a liquid substance suspected to be an illicit drug.
The Navy said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly purchased the expired drugs at Diamond Line in Ogbogwu Market, Onitsha, and was reportedly transporting them to Orsumoghu for sale.
Security officials further alleged that the destination community has recorded the presence of IPOB, ESN members and other armed criminal elements, raising concerns that the suspected substances could have ended up in the hands of criminal networks. They added that further investigation may help identify the suppliers and other persons connected to the alleged illicit drug distribution chain.
The suspect remains innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law, while the NDLEA is expected to continue investigations into the case.
