Court Orders Final Forfeiture of 48 Properties Linked to Ex AGF Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured a final court order forfeiting 48 properties linked to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to the Federal Government.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ruled that the EFCC successfully established that the properties were reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities and were not acquired through lawful sources of income.

Among the forfeited assets are Rayhaan University in Kebbi State, including its permanent and temporary campuses, the Vice Chancellor’s residence, Rayhaan Radio, Rayhaan Agro Allied Factory, hotels, residential buildings, commercial plazas, warehouses, filling stations, and hundreds of hectares of land across Abuja, Kebbi, and Kano States.

The court held that Malami, his family members, and associates failed to provide credible evidence showing that the properties were acquired with legitimate funds. It ruled that merely claiming ownership was insufficient in non conviction based forfeiture proceedings.

The case began in January 2026 when Justice Emeka Nwite granted an interim forfeiture order following an ex parte application by the EFCC. After the order was published in national newspapers, Malami and 14 others challenged the forfeiture and the court’s jurisdiction. However, after hearing all parties, Justice Abdulmalik dismissed their arguments and granted the EFCC’s application for the final forfeiture of the assets to the Federal Government.
