Anambra Police Arraign 12 Over Alleged Rape, Defilement, Child Abuse, Abduction

The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned 12 suspects before the Gender Magistrate Court in Awka over alleged offences including rape, defilement, child abuse, abduction and assault, reaffirming its commitment to protecting women and children from all forms of violence.

The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in separate cases involving minors and other vulnerable persons across the state.

Among those arraigned are Chima Onyeanuna, Emeka Muo and Okafor Chibundu, who are accused of abducting and defiling a 14 year old girl in Nanka.

Also before the court is Chukwudi Ugwu Jeremiah, who is facing allegations of defiling an 11 year old girl along Slaughter Lane in Awka.

In another case, Ndubuisi Ikechebelu, Udogu Kennedy, Nnamah Christopher and Chinecherem Emmanuel were arraigned over the alleged rape of a 19 year old woman on different occasions, resulting in her pregnancy.

The court also heard the case against Charity Anakwe and Chidiere Anakwe, who were arraigned for allegedly assaulting their 12 year old house help.

Similarly, Chukwudi Joseph was arraigned over the alleged assault of a 12 year old girl in Ozubulu, while Chibuike Agu is facing charges for the alleged defilement of a 13 year old girl in Fegge.

Following their arraignment, the court ordered that all 12 suspects be remanded at the Awka Correctional Centre pending the hearing of their respective cases.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command maintains zero tolerance for sexual and gender based violence, child abuse and other crimes against vulnerable persons.

He assured residents that the command will continue to investigate such cases thoroughly and ensure that offenders are prosecuted in accordance with the law, while urging members of the public to report cases of abuse promptly.
