Two Killed as Truck, Bus Collide and Burst Into Flames in Ogun

Two people have died following a fatal road accident involving a truck and a commercial bus along the Ogbere J4 corridor in Ogun State.

The crash occurred at about 5:10 a.m. on Thursday at Ogbere Junction, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command.

The accident involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 commercial bus without a visible registration number.

FRSC said four adult male occupants were involved in the crash. Two victims died at the scene, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.

According to the Corps, the crash was caused by route violation and excessive speeding. The impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, leaving its front section completely burnt.

The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call. Traffic was diverted to an alternative carriageway while officials cleared the wreckage to restore the free flow of vehicles.

The bodies of the deceased were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited in a mortuary.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations.

He warned drivers against speeding and route violations, especially during poor visibility and on wet roads, stressing that such dangerous driving habits remain major causes of fatal crashes on Nigerian highways.

The FRSC also reaffirmed its commitment to reducing road crashes through sustained enforcement, public education campaigns and prompt emergency response, while advising motorists to drive responsibly, obey speed limits and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
