Terrorists Attack Army Base, Burn Police Post, Hospital, School in Borno
Suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists have attacked Logomani community in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, burning a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms after launching an assault on a military base.
The attack occurred late Tuesday night, shortly after the insurgents stormed the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani, where one soldier was killed during an intense gun battle.
According to the military, troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled the coordinated attack after the terrorists briefly breached part of the base’s defensive perimeter.
In a statement, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the troops regrouped and mounted a counter offensive that inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, forcing them to retreat with gunshot wounds.
He confirmed that one soldier lost his life during the encounter, while two military gun trucks and other combat equipment were damaged.
The military added that the situation at the Forward Operating Base remains under control, with reinforcements deployed and clearance operations continuing to strengthen security in the area.
Residents said the terrorists fired sporadically to force people to flee before setting fire to the police outpost, the primary healthcare centre and two classrooms in the community.
A resident, who spoke anonymously, described the attack as well coordinated, alleging that the insurgents operated with little resistance before carrying out the destruction.
A security source disclosed that a combined team of military personnel, police officers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force launched a pursuit of the fleeing terrorists after the attack.
Following the incident, the Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Mala Tijjani Ngala, visited Logomani to assess the level of destruction.
During the inspection, he toured the damaged police outpost, healthcare facility and primary school, assuring residents that the findings would be forwarded to the Borno State Government for urgent intervention.
He also appealed to residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies as efforts to restore normalcy continue.
