FG to Present Proposal on Unified Secondary Education at National Council on Education

The Federal Government has announced plans to present a proposal for the unification of Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School at the next National Council on Education as part of efforts to improve access to education and enhance learning outcomes across the country.

The Minister of Education, , disclosed this during the inauguration of the Universal Basic Education Commission Ministerial Implementation and Monitoring Committee in Abuja.

According to the minister, the proposal followed findings that more than 20 million learners drop out of school before reaching the senior secondary level under the current education structure. He said the planned reform is intended to address the challenge and ensure greater continuity in secondary education.

The minister explained that the proposal to unify junior and senior secondary education will be presented to the National Council on Education for deliberation and possible approval as part of the Federal Government’s wider education reform agenda aimed at improving access, retention, and academic performance.
