Troops Arrest Suspected Terrorist Collaborators, Family of ISWAP Finance Chief Surrenders

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have intensified operations against terrorist networks in the North East, leading to the arrest of suspected collaborators, the surrender of family members of a senior ISWAP commander and the recovery of logistics items used by terrorists.

According to the military, troops of the 5 Brigade on July 27 arrested six suspected ISWAP collaborators in Damasak, Borno State, during an intelligence led operation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly generated funds for the terrorist group through the purchase and sale of cattle in designated markets at Gubio, Damasak and Ajuwango.

Items recovered from the suspects include a Volkswagen Golf car, vehicle keys, four mobile phones, cow meat and ₦317,950 in cash. The suspects are currently in military custody for further investigation.

In a separate operation on July 29, the wife and 11 year old son of a senior ISWAP finance operative surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion through Kusuma Village.

Military authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that the woman’s husband, who reportedly served as ISWAP’s Chief Finance Officer in Jubillaram and surrendered on July 25, instructed his family to surrender after leaving the terrorist enclave. Both individuals are currently undergoing profiling in line with established procedures.

Meanwhile, troops of the 145 Battalion, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a clearance operation in Turoh. The terrorists reportedly fled on sighting the advancing troops.

During the operation, troops recovered two motorcycles and large quantities of illicit hard drugs abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
