Police Arrest Three Women Over Alleged Sale of Four Year Old Boy for ₦2 Million in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three women over their alleged involvement in a child trafficking syndicate accused of selling a four year old boy for ₦2 million.

The suspects, identified as Florence Nnakuzie, 45, Hannah Ugah, 52, and Chinasa Daniel, 27, were apprehended by operatives of the Awada Divisional Headquarters during an operation at a motor park in Onitsha. The police said the arrests followed intelligence driven investigations into the activities of the suspected trafficking network.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary investigations revealed that Chinasa Daniel allegedly handed over two children, a two week old baby and a four year old boy, to another suspect, Hannah Ugah, on separate occasions between June and December 2025. The police alleged that the four year old child was later transferred to Florence Nnakuzie and sold for ₦2 million, while the newborn baby was allegedly sold to another woman who is currently on the run.

The police further disclosed that the operation led to the rescue of some children, while other members of the syndicate escaped and are being tracked. Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a thorough investigation and ordered operatives to intensify efforts to arrest the remaining suspects, rescue other trafficked children and reunite them with their biological families.

The Commissioner described child trafficking as a serious violation of human rights and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks involved in the illegal trade of children. He also commended members of the public whose timely information aided the successful operation and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing security efforts across the state.
