By Chibuzo Obidike | IchieTimes

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has pledged to prioritise national unity, security, the fight against corruption and poverty reduction if elected President.

Obi made the pledges on Thursday, October 29, 2026, during a town hall meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, as part of his nationwide grassroots sensitisation tour.

He said participants at the meeting raised concerns over kidnapping, banditry, corruption, government borrowing and the poor state of hospitals, schools and other public facilities.

Responding to the concerns, Obi promised to pursue reforms aimed at improving security, strengthening public institutions and addressing the challenges affecting ordinary Nigerians.

He also pledged greater inclusion and support for persons with disabilities, alongside increased investment in education and healthcare.

A major commitment he announced was the establishment of at least one fully functional primary healthcare centre in every political ward across the country.

Obi further promised to pursue policies aimed at reducing the cost of living and tackling poverty, while emphasising the need for national unity and accountable governance.
