Court Jails Two Women for Forgery in Lagos
The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced two women to three months’ imprisonment each after they pleaded guilty to charges of forgery and presenting forged documents.
The convicts, Olayiwola Bola Oke and Adijat Adewunmi Adeyinka, were separately arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Daniel Osiagor and Justice D.I. Dipeolu.
According to the EFCC, Olayiwola Bola Oke forged several Certificates of Occupancy and falsely presented herself as different individuals, including Alhaji Sule Adebodun, Mrs. Loretta Aiyerina Jibowu and Sulaimon Kayode Olaiya, with the intention to defraud.
In a separate case, Adijat Adewunmi Adeyinka admitted presenting a forged Lagos State Certificate of Occupancy while falsely claiming to be one Kudirat Olukotun in an attempt to stand as a surety for the bail of a suspect being investigated by the EFCC.
Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges. Following their pleas, the prosecution presented their statements and the forged documents as evidence before the courts and urged the judges to convict and sentence them.
Delivering judgment, Justice Daniel Osiagor sentenced Olayiwola Bola Oke to three months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine, while Justice D.I. Dipeolu handed Adijat Adewunmi Adeyinka the same sentence of three months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
The convictions underscore the EFCC’s continued efforts to combat forgery, identity fraud and other financial crimes across the country.
