As his two year administration draws to a close, the Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Honourable Rome Ibekwe, has commissioned a skill acquisition centre at Umukabia Neni and four factory fitted medical ambulances to strengthen healthcare delivery across the council area.

The commissioning marked a major highlight of Ibekwe’s administration, with residents of Neni turning out in large numbers to celebrate what they described as the developmental strides recorded during his tenure.

The newly commissioned skill acquisition centre, named after the outgoing mayor, is already training about 500 youths in various vocational skills, including tailoring, pastries, hotel management, shoe and bag making, decoration, ICT, masonry, Almacco installation and automobile mechanics.

The four factory fitted ambulances are expected to support emergency medical response across primary healthcare centres and health posts in Anaocha.

Speaking at the event, Ibekwe said he was delighted by the warm reception from the people and thanked God for giving him the strength and inspiration to address what he described as the core needs of Ndi Anaocha during his time in office.

According to him, his administration, within two years, cleared the long standing refuse dump in Agulu, provided solar powered boreholes across the ten communities in the local government area and improved security infrastructure.

He also said his administration upgraded several health posts to primary healthcare centres, equipped them with modern medical equipment and embarked on the upgrade and facelift of the local government headquarters.

Ibekwe expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his advice and support, as well as stakeholders across Anaocha for their cooperation during his tenure.

The President General of Neni, Sir Christian Ikebudu, commended the mayor, describing the past two years as a period of development across the council area.

Also speaking, the Head of Department of Health, Anaocha Local Government Area, Mrs Lucia Udala, highlighted what she described as significant improvements in healthcare delivery under the Ibekwe led administration.

Udala said the investments in the health sector had contributed to a drastic reduction in deaths and preventable deaths recorded at health facilities across the council area.

For one of the beneficiaries of the skill acquisition programme, Miss Treasure Okafor, the initiative had gone beyond vocational training.

She said the programme had given young people hope, dignity and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the prosperity of their communities.

The Vice Chairman of Umukabia Neni, Chief Chukwudi Ndommadu, also commended Ibekwe for what he described as legacies established during his tenure and prayed for greater opportunities for the outgoing mayor.

With the commissioning of the skill acquisition centre and the four ambulances, Ibekwe’s administration is winding down with projects targeted at two critical areas of community development: youth empowerment and healthcare delivery.
