ACTDA, UNIZIK, Awka South Clear Shanties, Illegal Structures Around Ifite

The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), in collaboration with Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) and the Awka South Local Government Area, has commenced enforcement operations aimed at clearing illegal structures and restoring order around the Ifite and UNIZIK axis.
The joint enforcement team removed shanties, illegal projections and other structures obstructing walkways and public spaces within the student dominated areas.
The exercise, according to the agencies, is aimed at improving pedestrian movement, enhancing environmental sanitation and creating a safer and more orderly environment for students, residents and business operators.
The intervention is also part of efforts to address activities and structures that could contribute to insecurity, congestion and poor living conditions within the university community.
The joint task force said the operation was being carried out in line with the directive of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, to maintain a clean, safe and well planned Awka Capital Territory.
Officials warned that the removal of illegal structures would continue, stressing that public spaces, walkways and road setbacks must not be converted into private business premises or residential extensions.
The task force also appealed to landlords and business owners within the affected areas to comply with approved physical planning regulations and desist from erecting structures on public spaces.
According to the enforcement team, maintaining clear walkways will not only improve mobility but also contribute to reducing crime and improving the general living conditions of students and residents in the area.
The agencies urged residents and property owners to cooperate with the ongoing exercise as part of collective efforts to build a cleaner, safer and more organised Awka.
