The FCT Police Command has arrested an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly firing shots into the air during a dispute with traders at Kubwa Market, Abuja.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 25, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., after police received a distress call about an armed man allegedly shooting sporadically in the market.
Police operatives responded to the scene and arrested the suspect, identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the NSCDC.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the officer went to the market with a pistol after receiving reports that some traders had assaulted his wife. During a confrontation with the traders, he allegedly fired several shots into the air.
The police said they recovered a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the suspect, who remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
He is expected to be charged in court after the investigation is completed.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged officers of sister security agencies to coordinate with local police divisions before conducting operations within the territory.
