The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has donated essential supplies to two children’s homes in the state as part of efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable children.
The Commissioner visited Divine Mercy Home in Nnewi and Model Children’s Home, where she presented foodstuffs, beverages, household provisions and toiletries to support the children’s daily needs and ease the burden on their caregivers.
Mrs. Onyekesi said every child deserves love, protection, dignity and opportunities to grow and develop, regardless of their circumstances. She stressed that children in residential care require sustained support to enjoy safe and nurturing environments.

She said the intervention reflects the commitment of the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo to strengthening social welfare services and ensuring that vulnerable children receive the attention and care they need.
The Commissioner called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, caregivers, non-governmental organisations and well meaning individuals to improve living conditions in children’s homes.

According to her, child protection is a collective responsibility that requires practical and consistent support to ensure that no child is denied the security, care and opportunities needed to thrive.
The visits form part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen child protection and social welfare services in line with the Soludo administration’s Solution Agenda.
