The Anambra State Police Command has foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt along the Ogbakuba-Ossomala Road after armed men reportedly blocked the route and opened fire on unsuspecting road users.

The incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. on October 20, 2026, when the suspected attackers, allegedly armed with AK-47 rifles, reportedly attempted to disrupt movement along the road in what police described as a suspected plan to abduct motorists and other travellers.

According to preliminary police information, the operation of a joint security team targeting armed secessionist groups in the area disrupted the suspected attackers’ activities, preventing the alleged abduction from being carried out.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the security operatives for their swift response and professionalism in addressing the threat.

CP Oji Ama reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks, prevent kidnapping and protect lives and property across the state.

The command said security operations were continuing in the area to strengthen public safety and prevent further criminal activities along the route.

It urged residents and road users to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies and cooperate with security operatives in the fight against crime.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on October 20, 2026.
