Pakistan School Collapse Kills 34 Children, Teacher as Dozens Are Injured
A devastating school roof collapse in Peshawar, northwestern Pakistan, has killed at least 34 children and a female teacher, leaving dozens of others injured in a tragedy that has sparked renewed concerns over building safety.
The incident occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the privately owned Al-Khair Education Centre in Peshawar, where pupils were attending morning classes when the structure collapsed.

Rescue workers, emergency personnel and local residents rushed to the scene, working for hours to pull trapped children from beneath the rubble as distressed parents gathered outside the school in search of their children.
More than 50 children were reported injured, with some sustaining serious injuries requiring urgent medical attention. Most of the victims were young pupils, many between six and 12 years old.

Police described the building as structurally weak, while investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the collapse. The school’s owner has been arrested as authorities seek to establish what caused the deadly incident.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about construction standards and the enforcement of building safety regulations in Pakistan, particularly in schools where structural failures can place large numbers of children at risk.

Pakistan’s President, Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, expressed condolences to the bereaved families following the disaster. Authorities have also called for an investigation into the incident.
The collapse adds to concerns over the safety of educational facilities and the urgent need for effective inspections and enforcement of construction standards to prevent similar tragedies.
