More than 30,000 teachers in Enugu State have declared support for Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu to secure second terms in the 2027 elections, pointing to improved teachers’ welfare and increased government investment in education.

The declaration came during a rally organised by the Teachers for Grassroots Movement at Okpara Square, Enugu, on Saturday, after a march through parts of the state capital involving over 12,000 teachers.

The Enugu State NUT Chairman, Theophilus Odo, highlighted timely salary payments, regular promotions, teacher recruitment and training programmes among the measures he said had improved teachers’ welfare under Mbah.

He also cited the construction of more than 260 Smart Green Schools as part of the administration’s education drive.

The NAPPS Chairman in the state, Nelson Agu, also praised the government for allocating 33 per cent of the state budget to education for three consecutive years.

The movement’s Director-General, Nwakaego Aja, pledged the support of over 30,000 teachers for Mbah and announced plans to mobilise support for the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.

President Tinubu also received the group’s endorsement, with Mbah linking the resources available to states for development projects to the president’s economic reforms.

The rally adds teachers to the groups publicly declaring political support ahead of the 2027 elections, with education spending and teachers’ welfare featuring prominently in their stated reasons.
