My husband called me ugly, wished he chose lighter skinned woman to bear his children, lady says

An African American woman, Marie Cherilien, has shared her experience after she said her husband called her ugly and told her he wished he had chosen a lighter skinned woman to be the mother of his children.

Cherilien made the claim in a Facebook post on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

According to her, the remarks left her shocked, but she chose not to react as she might have done in the past, saying she had grown to love herself.

She also claimed that she had “outgrown” her husband and said the couple remain connected through three children, three businesses and two properties.

Cherilien further expressed the view that many Black men have internalised colourism and prefer lighter skinned women.

She advised dark skinned women to carefully vet potential partners for attitudes towards skin colour before entering relationships.
