Abandoned Nnewi Shopping Mall Set For Completion As Soludo Hands Over Site To Contractors
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has officially flagged off the revival and completion of the long-abandoned Nnewi Shopping Mall at the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, bringing renewed hope to the commercial project after years of abandonment.
The Governor, at a formal handover ceremony, transferred the project site to the contractor, ZTC, with a directive to complete and deliver the facility within 52 weeks.
The multi-million-naira shopping complex, located at the heart of Nnewi’s commercial district, has remained uncompleted for years, with the Governor describing its prolonged abandonment as an unacceptable waste of public resources.
Soludo represented by Commissioner for Housing, Arch. Henry Arinze, said the administration was determined to restore the facility to productive use and harness its potential to strengthen commercial activities in Nnewi, one of Anambra’s major economic centres.
The revival of the shopping mall forms part of the Soludo administration’s broader Urban Renewal Masterplan for Nnewi, which includes the development of a modern bus terminal, a recreational centre and the reclamation and productive utilisation of dormant public assets.
The project is expected to contribute to the transformation of the Nkwo Nnewi area while creating additional opportunities for commerce and economic activity in the city.
