Indiscriminate Dumping Of Refuse Caused Nkpor-Nnobi Road Failure Says Anambra Works Commissioner

By Chibuzo Obidike |Ichie Times

The Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arc. Okey Ezeobi, has attributed the failure of a section of the Nkpor-Nnobi Road to indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways, which he said diverted floodwater towards the road and a nearby erosion site.

Commissioner Ezeobi stated this during an inspection of the ongoing intervention on the affected portion of the road, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, describing the project as nearing completion.

According to him, the damaged drainage has been remedied and the affected section of the road restored, with the intervention expected to improve safety for motorists and protect the road from further damage.

Ezeobi said the incident demonstrated how human activities can contribute significantly to road failures and erosion, particularly when waterways are blocked with refuse.

He therefore appealed to communities and residents to adopt responsible environmental practices and desist from dumping waste in drainage channels and waterways.

The Commissioner noted that several cases of road failure and erosion across the state were linked to human activities, stressing that protecting public infrastructure requires the cooperation of government and the people.

He also appreciated Ndi Anambra for bringing infrastructure challenges to the attention of the government, saying such feedback enables the government to identify problems, mobilise resources, intervene and deliver solutions.

The inspection, he said, reflects the government’s commitment to responding to infrastructure concerns and ensuring that roads remain safe and functional for road users.
