By Christopher Ohaerisim

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence 16 new academic programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, announced the development yesterday during the University’s 35th Inaugural Lecture held at the ETF Auditorium.

Prof. Omenugha, who addressed participants virtually, said the approval followed the successful completion of the NUC’s resource verification exercise conducted at the University.

The NUC had, in August, deployed a verification team to COOU to assess the infrastructure, facilities, human resources and other requirements necessary for the commencement of the programmes.

The resource verification exercise was a key requirement for obtaining regulatory approval and opening the programmes for student admission.

Announcing the approval, the Vice-Chancellor said the 16 programmes had received the necessary clearance from the NUC, paving the way for the University to commence admissions.

She assured prospective students and the University community that the institution would commence the admission process for the newly approved programmes without unnecessary delay.

The newly approved programmes are B.Sc. International Relations; B.Rad. Radiography; B.Sc. Software Engineering; B.Sc. Cyber Security; B.Sc. Data Science; B.Sc. Public Health; B.Sc. Project Management and B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Others B.Sc. Transport Management include B.Sc. Taxation; B.Sc. Procurement; B.Sc. Information Technology; B.EHS. Environmental Health Sciences; O.D. Optometry and D.PT. Physiotherapy

The approval expands COOU’s academic offerings across the social sciences, technology, health sciences, management and other professional fields.

The new programmes are also expected to create additional opportunities for prospective students seeking admission into the University, with successful candidates becoming the pioneer students of the newly approved courses.
