Work Progresses at Onitsha Main Market as Traders Commend Healthcare Centre

Work is progressing at the Onitsha Main Market as the Anambra State Government continues with the ongoing modernisation of the market.

More than three months after the project commenced, construction activities are ongoing in different sections of the market.

Drainage channels are being constructed across parts of the market, while some trading lines are also being expanded. Roofing work is ongoing, with new structures springing up in different sections.

Other facilities under construction include conveniences, a healthcare centre and water tanks, while some structures are still at various stages of completion.

Some traders who spoke on the project commended the construction of the healthcare centre, describing it as an important facility for the market.

One of the traders, Mr. Michael Muokezie, said the facility would help provide quick medical attention to traders and customers in cases of emergencies.

He recalled that there had been cases of people collapsing in the market and losing their lives before they could receive medical attention.

The trader expressed optimism that the project, when completed, would provide a better and more conducive environment for trading.

Meanwhile, workers at the site say construction is progressing smoothly, with no major challenges reported so far.

With the four-month deadline drawing closer, attention is now on the pace of work and the completion of the various facilities planned for the market.
