Anambra Empowers Nine Rehabilitated Persons, Reunites Them With Families

Nine residents of the Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre, Nteje, have been reunited with their families after completing rehabilitation and being certified fit to return to their communities.

The beneficiaries were formally sent off during a ceremony attended by government officials, management and staff of the Centre and community members. The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, represented the First Lady of Anambra State, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, at the event.

During their stay at the Centre, the beneficiaries received rehabilitation support and were trained in vocational skills, particularly baking, to enable them return to society as productive and self reliant members of their communities.

As part of the reintegration programme, the nine beneficiaries received bags of flour, baking equipment and take off grants to enable them establish small scale businesses and put their newly acquired skills into practice.

Mrs Onyekesi commended Governor Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo for supporting the welfare and rehabilitation of vulnerable persons in the state. She also appreciated the First Lady, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, for her commitment to the empowerment of the beneficiaries and the welfare of residents at the Centre.

The Commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the skills, equipment and grants provided to them, describing the support as an opportunity for a fresh start. She also commended the management and staff of the Centre for their dedication and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the protection, rehabilitation, empowerment and reintegration of vulnerable persons across Anambra State.
