Umahi Orders Arrest of Contractor Over Incomplete Benin Onitsha Expressway Section

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has ordered the immediate arrest of the contractor handling the Summit Junction to Head Bridge section of the Benin Onitsha Expressway over alleged failure to meet contractual obligations despite receiving payment.

Umahi gave the directive during an inspection of road projects around Onitsha, Anambra State, where he expressed displeasure over the contractor’s failure to deliver the section of the expressway.

The Minister said government had fulfilled its financial obligations to the contractor, stressing that contractors entrusted with public projects must deliver according to the terms of their contracts.

He warned that the Federal Government would no longer tolerate contractors who receive payment without corresponding performance on site.

Umahi reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to completing critical road infrastructure and ensuring that contractors handling government projects are held accountable for their responsibilities.
