Terrorist Surrenders Soar as Operation Hadin Kai Records 202% Week on Week Increase

The Nigerian military says terrorist surrenders in the North East have recorded a dramatic increase, with more than 150 commanders, fighters and affiliates surrendering in the latest week, compared with over 50 recorded in the previous week.

The development was announced by the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, which described the increase as an unprecedented surge and a sign of mounting pressure within terrorist formations.

According to the Theatre Command, the sharp rise in surrenders is linked to sustained intelligence led military operations, intensified pressure on terrorist groups and coordinated kinetic and non kinetic efforts aimed at weakening their capabilities and encouraging fighters to abandon terrorism.

The military said the pressure is increasingly affecting the terrorists’ freedom of movement, access to logistics and ability to sustain their operations and retain fighters within their enclaves.

Weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from some of those who surrendered, providing further indication of the operational impact of the ongoing offensive.

Beyond battlefield operations, the military said strategic communication and civil military engagement are also playing a major role by encouraging members of terrorist groups who are willing to renounce violence to disengage and return to lawful society.

All surrendering persons are being profiled and documented and will be handled in accordance with established procedures and applicable laws.

The Military High Command commended troops for maintaining pressure on terrorist networks and urged them to sustain the momentum.

With more than 150 surrenders recorded in just one week, Operation HADIN KAI says it will continue exploiting the momentum to disrupt terrorist recruitment, weaken their support networks and deny them freedom of action across the North East.
