Police Re-arrest Eight of 11 Escapees in Delta, Rescue 12 Abducted Victims in Kogi

The Nigeria Police Force has re-arrested eight of the 11 suspects who escaped from lawful custody at a police facility in Ughelli, Delta State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, saying the suspects were recaptured following intelligence led operations.

The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba.

In another operation in Delta, police arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the illegal disposal of oil contaminated sludge along the Ughelli Iyede Expressway. A truck reportedly used in the operation was also recovered.

In Anambra State, police officers acting on credible intelligence arrested a 49 year old man at Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, on Monday.

One pump action gun and 50 live cartridges were recovered from the suspect. The case is being investigated by the SCID, Awka.

Meanwhile, police operatives in Kogi State secured the release of 12 abducted victims at Abocho, Dekina Local Government Area.

According to the Force spokesperson, sustained pressure by security forces led to the victims’ release on Monday. They were debriefed at the Divisional Police Headquarters before being reunited with their families.

The police said similar operational successes were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory, Oyo, Benue, Niger, Bayelsa and Ogun states.
