NDLEA Destroys Cannabis Farms Worth 4.6 Tonnes, Arrests 10 In Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has destroyed two cannabis plantations with an estimated yield of 4,628.9kg in Edo State and arrested 10 suspected drug traffickers in separate operations across the state.

The Edo State Commander of the agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this on Monday, saying the cannabis farms, located in Ugboku, Igbanke Forest, Orhionmwon LGA, covered a combined 1.85 hectares. One suspect, 40-year-old Agholor Elebojie, was arrested in connection with one of the plantations, while 12.4kg of processed cannabis was also recovered from the second farm.

In separate raids on drug flashpoints at Oluku in Ovia North East and Abuja Quarters in Benin City, operatives arrested 10 suspected traffickers and recovered various illicit substances, including cannabis, Loud, methamphetamine, Tramadol, Diazepam, Swinol and Danabol.

Ofoyeju said the operations were part of the renewed nationwide offensive ordered by NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, to dismantle illicit drug production centres and trafficking networks. He added that all suspects were in custody as investigations continued ahead of prosecution.
