By Ichie Times Reporter

The Anambra State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has continued its enforcement against illegal structures with the demolition of structures along Johnson Street at the Onitsha Main Market.

The exercise, carried out on Sunday, August 9, 2026, is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to regenerate and improve the market.

The Ministry said the demolition was targeted at structures that failed to comply with approved physical planning and development regulations.

According to the Ministry, the exercise is also aimed at restoring order, improving the appearance of the market and creating a safer and more organised environment for traders, customers and other users.

The ongoing regeneration is expected to promote the proper use of available spaces and ensure that future developments within the market comply with approved planning standards.

The Anambra State Government has continued to urge traders, residents, developers and property owners to comply with physical planning regulations as part of efforts to build a cleaner, safer and more organised state.
