New Police Commissioner Assumes Duty In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, as the new Commissioner of Police in the state.

CP Oji Ama assumed office on Monday, August 10, 2026, following the retirement of the immediate past Commissioner, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police before his retirement.

The new Commissioner brings over three decades of policing experience to Anambra, having served in intelligence, criminal investigation, tactical operations, administration and strategic command.

Before his deployment, he served as Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Training, at the Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

A native of Ekata in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, CP Oji Ama holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Jos and trained at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

His previous postings include Area Commander, Nnewi; Deputy Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, FCID Abuja; Commanding Officer of several Police Mobile Force formations; and Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Command.

He has also undergone several professional and strategic courses in Nigeria and abroad and was recognised for bravery following the recovery of an AK 47 rifle during a shootout with armed robbers in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, in 2007.

On assumption of office, CP Oji Ama pledged to consolidate the security gains recorded in Anambra and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders.

He assured residents, visitors and businesses of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, combating crime, upholding the rule of law and creating a safer environment across the state.
