Troops Rescue 33 Kidnapped Passengers in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The rescue operation followed credible information received by troops and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force deployed in Tsafe on Saturday, August 8, 2026, that passengers travelling through the Magazu area had been kidnapped.

Acting swiftly on the information, the troops mobilised to the area and intercepted the terrorists as they were reportedly moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed location.

The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into the surrounding bushes.

All 33 kidnapped passengers were subsequently rescued unharmed, while troops commenced a search of the area in an effort to track the fleeing terrorists.

The Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their prompt response and professionalism, which resulted in the safe recovery of the victims without casualties.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the military to protecting civilians, denying terrorists freedom of movement and safeguarding major transportation routes across the North West.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information about the activities and movements of terrorists and other criminal elements.

The latest operation underscores the importance of rapid intelligence sharing and coordinated action between security agencies in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and terrorism in the region.
