Anambra Family Declares Ancestral Farmland Off Limits, Warns Land Grabbers and Buyers

The Umuonuagha family of Amaede Village, Mgbakwu, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has declared that its ancestral Ogugu Ugbo farmland is not for sale and warned suspected land grabbers and prospective buyers to stay away from the property.

The declaration was made during the removal of beacons the family alleged were illegally erected on the land by suspected land grabbers in an attempt to lay claim to the property.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of the Umuonuagha family, Mr. Jonathan Akaobi, described the land as an ancestral heritage passed down through generations. He said the family has no intention of selling the property, insisting it must be preserved for future generations.

Mr. Akaobi expressed concern over what he described as repeated attempts by unidentified individuals to encroach on the farmland. He disclosed that the family had removed similar illegal beacons from the property on three previous occasions, adding that those behind the alleged encroachment have continued to operate without identifying themselves.

Also speaking, the family’s Chief Taskforce Officer, Mr. Okechukwu Akaobi, and a member of the taskforce committee, Pastor Felix Okoye, urged members of the public to exercise caution and avoid purchasing any portion of the Ogugu Ugbo farmland.

They maintained that the land remains the lawful property of the Umuonuagha family and warned that anyone who enters into any transaction involving the property does so at their own risk.

The family called on the relevant authorities to protect their ancestral land from illegal encroachment and ensure that those behind the alleged land grabbing activities are brought to justice.
